When Should I Take a Pregnancy Test?

The timing for a pregnancy test can vary, however, it’s generally advisable to wait until after you’ve missed your period for the most accurate results. Pregnancy tests check for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) hormone that is produced during pregnancy. Your hCG levels start to build up about six to 10 days after conception.

Note that taking a pregnancy test too early can result in a false negative. If you get a negative test and then miss your period, it’s recommended to take another test.

Does Urgent Care Do Pregnancy Tests?

Yes, at vybe urgent care, we offer urine and blood pregnancy tests.

Urine pregnancy tests work by detecting hCG in the urine. After you provide your urine sample, a healthcare provider will perform the test using a dipstick and results will be available in a few minutes.

If your clinician determines it is necessary, they may perform a blood pregnancy test. Compared to urine tests, blood pregnancy tests have higher accuracy and sensitivity. Similar to urine tests, blood pregnancy tests check for the presence of hCG. However, since hCG levels are higher in blood than in urine, these tests are more accurate and can detect hCG before a missed period and can also measure the amount of hCG in your blood—giving you specific insight into your pregnancy. Since blood tests are sent to an outside lab, blood pregnancy test results are available within 3–5 days. Please note that blood pregnancy tests are performed at the discretion of your clinician.

Whether you have questions about the process or need immediate results, our team is here to support you with compassion and expertise.

How Much Does a Pregnancy Test at Urgent Care Cost?

For self-pay patients, a urine pregnancy test at vybe urgent care is $135 and includes a visit with a clinician. Pregnancy blood tests are also $135 but include additional fees charged by an outside lab, which you’ll be billed for separately. While more expensive, a pregnancy blood test may be your best option if you need an early answer.

For patients with insurance, pregnancy tests (including blood pregnancy tests) are generally covered by most health plans. However, we recommend contacting your insurance carrier to confirm any out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles or copays, before coming in for a visit.

What’s the Difference Between a Home Pregnancy Test & Getting Tested at Urgent Care?

While most at-home pregnancy tests are fairly accurate after a missed period, many of these tests are inconsistent in detecting pregnancy hormone levels which can lead to inaccurate results. There’s also the possibility of user error with home tests, like testing too early, too late, or not performing the test properly.

When you get a pregnancy test at urgent care, there is less room for error, as healthcare providers are properly trained to conduct an accurate pregnancy test.

Our team of healthcare professionals is available 7 days a week, to provide fast, reliable urine and blood testing for pregnancy. Our team will help you get accurate results in a comfortable, supportive environment and can help advise you on how to proceed based on pregnancy test results.
