Eye Pain

Redness. Drainage. Irritation. Pain. Maybe it’s pink eye.

SCHEDULE A VISIT

Maybe you woke up after a late night, and your eyes seemed a little puffy. Maybe there was some redness and drainage. You dabbed your eyes with a warm washcloth, hoping that would do the trick. If that doesn’t work, you may want to visit your local vybe urgent care and find out what is causing the irritation. Here are a few possibilities:

Pink eye

Pink eye is also known as conjunctivitis and is as contagious as the common cold. In fact, it’s caused by the same virus that causes your cold. Pink eye can be viral or bacterial, and allergies may also be a cause of conjunctivitis.

Pink eye is not more contagious in kids—it’s just they’re more likely to touch their face, so it’s easier for them to catch.

Symptoms of pink eye include red, itchy eyes, discharge, and maybe even slightly blurred vision.  If you wake with any of these symptoms, wait an hour, and see if your condition improves.  For immediate relief of your symptoms, you should be cautious of using any drug store eye products that help get the red out.  They often contain oxymetazoline, which can be addictive.

Styes

A stye usually forms near an eyelash and might look like a small pimple on the eyelid. Since it’s caused by a blocked gland, it may become more red, swollen, and painful before it starts to drain on its own and disappear.

When you recognize a sty, a warm compress is often an effective way to reduce symptoms.

If that doesn’t help, there are alternatives available at your local vybe urgent. Occasionally, styes may become chronic and may need the care of an Ophthalmologist.

Eye pain

Many other things can cause eye pain or discomfort.  Common causes include eyestrain, dry eyes, headaches, and flu.  However, the most common cause of eye pain is a foreign object, like an eyelash, dirt, makeup, or even a dry contact lens.

Eye pain can, however, be related to a health condition like an eye infection or glaucoma.

If you’re having new eye pain, especially if you’re having changes in your vision, it’s best to talk to a medical professional about its cause and what can be done to help you feel better.
