Russell Karten’s Healthy vybe

Get to know Russell:

Why did you decide to work in healthcare?

Following my interests in science, I naturally found myself pursuing a career in medicine. My desire to care for patients of all ages with many different types of illnesses and injuries led me to a career in emergency medicine.

What do you like most about working at vybe?

During my years in the emergency department, I learned about my interest in the business world. Now, I am fortunate that I can blend my two interests, as we build our vybe urgent care business. I am very excited to work alongside everyone at vybe and build a strong and dedicated team together to bring excellent patient care to everyone in Philly.

Favorite area of Philadelphia:

I like many areas in Center City. We used to live in Queen Village and I miss being able to walk along South Street to get good food or play some pool. I also like the tree-filled parks in the city like Rittenhouse and Washington Square.

Favorite Philly sports team or event:

I have grown to become a solid Philadelphia Eagles fan over the years. It is especially easier now as I watch many of the games with my 10-year-old son.

Favorite workout song:

Eminem’s song Lose Yourself.

On your bucket list:

Traveling to many new places around the world. I particularly want to travel to Japan and Fiji.

Show(s) you binge-watch:

The one show that my wife and I binge-watched is Game of Thrones. We started watching during the fifth season and we quickly watched the first five season to catch up. Now we can’t wait for the seventh season to start.

Most helpful health tip:

My many years of caring for patients in the emergency department taught me about the dangers of smoking. Avoid smoking at all costs!

How do you find your vybe? (How do you stay healthy?)

I am devoted to exercise and that is a big part of what keeps me feeling good. I make it to classes three times a week at the local CrossFit gym where I get an awesome workout and am lucky to be part of the strong community.
